Board continues budget discussions

Members of the Laketown Township Board of Trustees are working on next fiscal year’s budget and will continue that discussion at a special budget meeting Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 6 p.m. at Laketown Township Hall, 4338 Beeline Road.

At the February 18 board meeting, Supervisor and Interim Manager Steven Ringelberg presented a draft of the 2025-2026 budget with total revenue projected at $1,825,488 and expenditures of $1,774,391.

General fund expenditures are projected to decrease $237,624 over the estimated 2024-2025 expenditures.

Ringelberg included a detailed narrative explaining parts of the proposed budget.

The board also discussed the Graafschap Fire Department budget, which is proposed to be $974,830, a decrease in expenditures of $76,816 from the 2024-2025 budget.

The township’s fiscal year is April 1 through March 31.

Other business

In other business, the board:

  • Unanimously adopted a resolution to amend the Laketown Township employee handbook to match state guidelines regarding sick days.
  • Unanimously directed Ringelberg to sign a contract with the Allegan County Road Commission for up to $1,500 for dust control on unpaved township roads in 2025.
  • Heard staff reports from the township assessor, community development director and deputy clerk. Those reports are available here.
