Hike through Huyser Farm marks Day of Forests

Join the Radar Hill Hiking Club for a free walk through Huyser Farm Park at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2026, to celebrate Day of Forests.

Meet in the parking lot at 4188 64th St., south of 142nd Avenue. Dress appropriately for the weather. The walk is about 3 miles on mainly flat trails.

The park is 102 acres with several trails, a pond, creek, dunes, forest and 6.5 acres of organic blueberry bushes. The park has a gazebo and a portable restroom.

The International Day of Forests is celebrated annually to raise awareness about the importance of all types of forests and trees outside forests. Established by the United Nations, this day encourages countries to undertake local, national, and international efforts to organize activities involving forests and trees, such as tree-planting campaigns. 

The Radar Hill Hiking Club, a service of RiverWood Council, is an informal group – essentially an email list – whose goal is to promote the use of trails in the greater Saugatuck-Douglas area. The group sponsors monthly hikes and helps maintain local trails.

Radar Hill is better known as Mount Baldhead, the iconic dune just east of Oval Beach in Saugatuck. The name comes from the radar tower that looks like a big white ball on top of the dune. From 1958 through 1968 the tower was an active part of a Cold War system that monitored the northern border of the United States, on the lookout for encroaching aircraft.
