About 80% of registered voters participated in election

Majority of Laketown residents backed Donald Trump for president.

About 80 percent of Laketown Township registered voters cast ballots in the Nov. 5, 2024, election, according to the Allegan County Clerk’s Office.

The clerk’s office showed 4,465 residents voted out of 5,537 registered for 80.6 percent. The township was tied for second for the highest voter turnout in the county.

Overisel Township was top in percentage of voter turnout at 83.5 percent. Laketown and Salem townships had 80.6 percent overall turnout, followed by Saugatuck Township at 80.3 percent, according to the website.

Overall, Allegan County had 60.6 percent turnout, according to clerk records.

In total, 1,595 people used early in-person voting from Oct. 26 through Nov.3.

Laketown Township voters supported Donald Trump for president with 2,584 votes (63.5 percent). Kamala Harris received 1,772 votes in the township (34.9 percent).

Of the Laketown Township residents who voted, 2,275 were female and 2,187 were male, 55.8 percent were 60 years old or older, and 20.5 percent were 30 years old or younger.
