Allegan County opens hazardous waste events to all residents

These events are separate from Laketown-only collection on June 8.

Household hazardous waste and electronic waste collection events are now open to all Allegan County residents.

The Allegan County Board of Commissioners authorized these events for all county residents.

Laketown-only event

These events are separate from the local collection day that is only for Laketown Township residents.

The Laketown-only event is 8-11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Republic Services of Holland Westshore Recycling, 4368 68th St. Vouchers are required. For more information, click here.

Countywide events

Upcoming countywide events are:

Saturday, May 4 — 9 a.m. to noon. Wayland Hardings Market, 300 Reno Drive, Wayland.

Saturday, June 1 — 9 a.m. to noon. Allegan County Human Services Building, 3255 122nd Ave., Allegan. Behind building in lower level parking lot.

Saturday, Oct. 5 — 9 a.m. to noon. Otsego Department of Public Works, 243 N. Farmer St., Otsego. In the parking lot.

Participants must present a driver’s license or other identification to show Allegan County residency.

What can you bring: Radio, CD players, answering machines, calculators, copiers, scanners, fax, printers, DVD players, VCRs, gaming units, iPods, MP3 players, telephones, cell phones, televisions (two per vehicle), other media including disks, CDs, memory, and microwaves. Computers and accessories are also accepted.

Hazardous waste permitted: Oil-based paint, wood stain, cleaning products, paint thinner, adhesives, glues, weed killer, fertilizer, pest poisons, antifreeze, deck sealer, auto fluids, fluorescent light bulbs and compact fluorescent lights (CFLs), mercury thermometers, batteries (not auto), aerosol cans and pool chemicals.

Not accepted: Latex paint, appliances/freon, tires, trash, furniture, construction materials or yard waste, vacuums, VHS/cassettes, hair dryer/curling irons, toasters/ovens, coffee makers, hot plates, kitchen devices, blenders and can openers. No barrels or drums.
