Blood drive at fire station on Thursday

Graafschap Fire Department has many community outreach programs.
Laura Alvarez prepares to draw blood from Keith Whitehouse of Laketown Township on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, at the Graafschap Fire Department station, 4534 60th St.

Take advantage of the extra day of the month by donating blood at Graafschap Fire Department station, 4534 60th St., 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29.

This is the third time the American Red Cross has hosted an event at the fire station.

For an appointment, visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter sponsor code: GFD, or call (800) 733-2767.

Those who give in February can receive a $20 Amazon.com gift card by email. For more information, visit rcblood.org/heart.

The next blood drive at the fire station is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 30.

Helping the community

The blood drives are another way Graafschap Fire Department reaches out to the community.

The department has free weekly blood pressure checks at the facility from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays. The popular July Fourth pancake breakfast draws more than a thousand people to the site to help raise funds for the department.

The department is also engaged in Community Risk Reduction, providing home safety inspections and an expanded smoke/carbon monoxide detector program.

Reflective address signs are made in-house by Graafschap Fire Department retirees. The signs are usually ready for pick up at the fire station after two business days of receiving the order – and the $20 cost is paid at the time of pick-up.

The signs can also be ordered here.
