Bridge over I-196 closes May 30, Blue Star traffic routes through Laketown

Be aware of more vehicles on some roads in township.

Some roads in Laketown Township are going to get a lot busier this summer because of a bridge repair project at Exit 41 of I-196.

The Michigan Department of Transportation recently announced plans for work on the bridge on Blue Star Highway just east of 64th Street. Work begins May 30 and is expected to last through Aug. 22.

The entire bridge that spans the expressway will be closed to traffic. Both entrance ramps will be closed as well.

The exit ramps remain open.

Detour traffic will be routed onto 64th Street at the traffic light with Blue Star Highway. Vehicles will turn on 140th Avenue to 58th Street.

From there, drivers wanting to go to I-196 or U.S. 31 can head north on 58th Street and follow the posted route. Drivers wanting to get back to Blue Star Highway will turn south on 58th Street then onto Blue Star Highway at the flashing light by Big Curve Discount convenience store.

Be aware of the additional traffic and other drivers who might not be familiar with the area. Remember to be patient and stay safe.
