Board approves policies, dust control, payment for services

The Laketown Township Board of Trustees on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, approved new polices for returned checks, fee collection and the payment of contracted services.

The board unanimously approved:

  • Resolution 2026-15 to collect fees on dishonored checks, drafts or orders effective July 1.
  • Resolution 2026-16 to collect a 1 percent administration fee on all property taxes to offset the costs associated with assessing property and collecting taxes.
  • Dust control treatment of a total of 0.52 mile of unpaved roads in the township.
  • Allowing the transfer of the township’s current 457 plan to a Municipal Employees’ Retirement System of Michigan (MERS) 401(a) and MERS 457(b) plans with no increase in township contributions.
  • Dispersing funds to budgeted contract services groups: Evergreen Commons — $4,000; American Legion Band — $500; Fireworks — $1,775; 70×7 — $1,000; Resilience — $2,000; Reach for Recovery — $1,000; Legal Assistance Center — $1,725; Holland Chorale — $500; Escape Ministries — $2,000; Holland Symphony Orchestra — $500; Fellinlove Farm — $2,000.
