The Laketown Township board on Wednesday, Jan. 10, unanimously approved 3 percent pay increases for its members with an extra $10,000 for the clerk because of expanded election duties.

The township is required to set its salaries at the beginning of the year.

The increases go into effect for the next fiscal year that begins April 1.

The salaries for the two trustees were increased from $5,000 to $5,150 a year for each.

The salary for the treasurer and supervisor were increased from $16,500 to $16,995 a year for each.

The clerk’s salary increased from $16,500 to $16,995 plus $10,000 for a total of $26,995.

Early voting

The increase for the clerk is due to the added election duties with early voting that begins next month for the Feb. 27 Presidential Primary.

Early voting gives residents the opportunity to cast their vote in person nine days prior to the election. All early in-person voting will be at the Laketown Township Hall, 4338 Beeline Road. This is a change for some people who would normally vote in another precinct.

Early in-person voting is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following days: Saturday, Feb. 17; Sunday, Feb. 18; Monday, Feb. 19; Tuesday, Feb. 20; Wednesday, Feb. 21; Thursday, Feb. 22; Friday, Feb. 23; Saturday, Feb. 24; and Sunday, Feb. 25.
