A crew from Escape Ministries tackled sand removal from the stairs at Laketown Township Beach Park on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2023. Three people and a supervisor began a weeklong project as part of broader work around the township.
Strong winds along the Lake Michigan shoreline blow sand onto the wooden steps that lead to the township beach at the end of 142nd Avenue. The stairs were last cleaned in September during the annual United Way of Day of Caring, an event when volunteers and businesses around the area provide short-term service to area non-profit organizations.
The team from Escape Ministries has been active around the township this summer. They painted the restrooms at Wolters Woods Park, 6281 147th Ave., and cleaned brush and primed and painted the Huyser House, 4158 64th St.
The mission of Escape Ministries in Holland is to intervene in the lives of those who fall between the cracks of society and help them successfully navigate to a positive life experience through meaningful, Gospel-rooted relationships, according to the group’s website.
