The Allegan County Road Commission continues work today on culvert replacement on 145th Avenue between 64th Street and 62nd Street. The work means 145th Avenue is closed to through traffic there.

The Laketown Township Board of Trustees approved the work order for $51,700 at the April 11, 2024, meeting. The work will replace the 60-inch diameter by 60-foot-long metal culvert with a 60-inch diameter by 64-foot-long concrete culvert under the road.

The replacement is part of the upcoming resurfacing of 145th Avenue between 60th and 66th streets.

The township board is expected to approved the resurfacing bids at its Wednesday, May 8, meeting at the township hall, 4338 Beeline Road. The meeting starts at 6 p.m.

Other items

Also on the agenda for the Wednesday meeting are presentations from contracted services non-profit agencies that are seeking to continue funding from the township. Presentations are planned from Evergreen Commons, 70 X 7, Fellinlove Farm and Holland Chorale.

At the April meeting, the following groups made presentations: Mediation Services, Holland Symphony, Reach for Recovery (formerly OAR), Escape Ministries, Holland American Legion Band and Resilience (formerly the Center for Women in Transition). Allegan County Legal Assistance presented at an earlier meeting.

Those 11 groups total $16,000 in appropriations.

A decision on funding those groups could be made Wednesday or delayed until June.

Other action items include replacing Dick Becker who resigned from the planning commission earlier this month and the resolution to put on the August ballot the 2-mill Fire, Roads, Bike paths and Drain Millage renewal.
