Farview Park improvements: New gate, station repair
Gate will help control after-hour issues. Interurban wait station getting new roof, paint.

Improvements at two highly visible locations at Farview Park, 6257 138th Ave., began on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025.
Jeff Partyka, facilities operations for Laketown Township, installed a new gate at the park’s entrance.
The Laketown Parks and Recreation Commission approved the gate to end after-hour problems in the park’s parking lot. Neighbors have complained about vehicles in the area at night. A volunteer will open the gate at sunrise and close the gate at sunset.

Two other township parks have gates as well — Wolters Woods Park and Sanctuary Woods Park.

Interurban wait station
Spencer Covey of Covey Construction, 1290 Blue Star Highway, started repairs on the historic Interurban wait station at Farview Park on Monday as well.
Covey will remove and dispose of the current cedar shingles and underlayment on the roof, replace the underlayment, install new cedar shingles and install ceiling as needed. He will also install two new windows, replace fascia boards, install a new steel door and paint the exterior.

Total cost of the project is $9,990.

The township acquired the building in 1991. The station, which is about a century old, was where passengers of the Interurban railway waited for trains. The railway line passed through what is now Farview Park more than 100 years ago. The trains served Saugatuck, Castle Park, Macatawa Park, Holland and other locations.
