It was just another day for Louise Elenbaas of Holland.

“I give blood routinely,” she said laying back on the table at the Graafschap Fire Department, 4534 60th St. on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023.

Elenbaas participated in the second collection event this year at the fire station. The first American Red Cross blood drive was Aug. 31.

The next blood drive at the station is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29.

For more information on the blood drives, visit www.redcrossblood.org or call (800) RED CROSS (733-2767).

The blood drives are another way Graafschap Fire Department reaches out to the community.

The department has free weekly blood pressure checks at the facility from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays. The popular July Fourth pancake breakfast draws more than a thousand people to the site to help raise funds for the department.

The department is also engaged in Community Risk Reduction, providing home safety inspections and an expanded smoke/carbon monoxide detector program.

The department offers reflective address signs made in-house by Graafschap Fire Department retirees. The signs are usually ready for pick up at the fire station after two business days of receiving the order – and the $20 cost is paid at the time of pick-up.

The signs can be ordered here.
