Hello Laketown Township residents,

I am honored to be serving as your new township assessor as of June 2025. Over the past few months, our department has been focused on bringing fresh energy, refined processes, and updated technology to the way we serve our community.

Field audits start soon

One of the key responsibilities of the assessing department is making sure property values are fair, accurate, and equitable. This work helps maintain a balanced tax base, which in turn supports our schools, public safety, and essential township services. To ensure accuracy, state law requires that we conduct 20 percent field audits each year, which means reviewing a portion of properties in person.  Sophia Poel, deputy treasurer, will assist me with the field audits.

Beginning Sept. 28 and continuing through the end of the year, the assessor’s office will be conducting our annual 20 percent field audits and new construction reviews. These audits are required by state law and help ensure fair and accurate property assessments for all taxpayers.

Our staff may be in your neighborhood taking exterior photos, verifying property information, or inspecting new construction projects. Visits typically occur seven days a week between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work to keep our property records accurate and up to date.

This year, we’re excited to be using Pivot Point software, a tool that increases both accuracy and efficiency in our field work. With this technology, data collection is faster, information is more precise, and the entire review process is smoother. These improvements not only enhance the accuracy of property records but also allow us to better serve residents with timely and reliable information.

Looking ahead, our field work for new construction will begin in late November. We look forward to meeting residents both during our 20 percent audit visits and while reviewing new construction. These face-to-face interactions are an important part of keeping property records accurate and they also give us the chance to connect with you directly.

And here’s a little fun fact: when I’m not reviewing property records, you’ll most likely find me out on Donnell Lake with my fiancé, kids, and grandkids. Around here I go by “Popps” a title I wear proudly! Family, community, and lake life are a big part of who I am, and I’m excited to bring that same energy and care into serving Laketown Township.
