Get burn permits through fire department

You can burn branches and twigs in Laketown Township, but you need a burn permit from the Graafschap Fire Department.

Call the department, (616) 396-4060, on the day you are going to burn or the day before. If there is no answer when you call, please leave a message in the burn permit voice mailbox and we will call you right back. There is no fee for a burn permit. You will receive verbal approval, unless weather and dryness conditions prohibit safe burning.

If you live in a subdivision in Laketown Township, you may burn on odd days only and a permit is required.

You are not permitted to burn such items as treated lumber, construction debris, furniture, appliances or garbage.
