Hundreds enjoy award-winning Schrock Bros at Felt concert

Award-winning The Schrock Bros band brought American and blues to The Felt Summer Concert Series on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Felt Estate, 6597 138^th Ave.

The next free show is 7 p.m. Thursday, July 25, featuring Bernadette Kathryn & The Lonely Days Band. The group performs contemporary young country music drawing on Motown and rock and roll.

The Schrock Bros, locally based, have been performing together for a decade at festivals, concerts and clubs. In June 2023, they released their first full-length recording entitled “Faith in Love.” The work was the 2024 WYCE Jammie award-winner for Best Blues Soul Album.

Hundreds of spectators brought their blankets and chairs to enjoy the show in the shadow of the mansion on Thursday.

The final concert is Aug. 1 with Lighting Matches, an alternative rock band based in Grand Rapids.

Admission is free. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Food and drink service begins at 6 p.m. The music starts at 7 p.m.

No outside drinks allowed but outside food is permitted. Coolers and bags will be checked. No pets except registered service dogs.

Food will be provided by Pizza Parliament. Saugatuck Brewing Company and Michigan Wine Company are onsite as well for drinks.

The Carriage House, built in 1917, and mansion are open for self-guided tours during the shows.

About the mansion

Construction of the mansion began in 1925 by Dorr E. Felt, inventor of the Comptometer, an early adding machine. The building was finished in 1928. Felt’s wife Agnes died that year. Dorr died a year-and-a-half later.

After his death, the estate became a seminary for the Augustinian order then a state prison and Michigan State Police post before the property was purchased by Laketown Township.
