Kids hop in pond for Outdoor Discovery Center program

Next free event is Sept. 7 at Shore Acres Park.

More than a dozen children led their parents into the mud and water of the small pond at Farview Park, 6257 138th Ave. in Laketown Township, on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, as part of the Outdoor Discovery Center Frog Catching program. Naturalist Mike Graves pointed out amphibians, insects and other aquatic life as part of the class for 4- to 12-year-olds. The children used nets and collection tubs to catch and release the wildlife.

The free program was sponsored by Laketown Township.

The next free event is “Explore with Your Senses” from 4-5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at Shore Acres Park, 6602 138th Ave. Participants use their senses on this walk to touch, feel, smell, see and taste along the dune trails. Suggested age range is 3 to 9 years old. Guardians stay with the class.
