Laketown voters back Hamilton school millage

78 percent of Precinct 2 voters used absentee ballots.

Voters in the Hamilton Community Schools district approved the operating millage proposal on the May 7 ballot.

Overall, the millage issue passed 1,377 yes (62.11 percent) and 840 no (37.89 percent), according to the Allegan County Clerk’s Office.

Voters in Laketown Township’s Precinct 2 approved the millage 321 yes and 193 no.

Only Precinct 2 voters participated in this Hamilton election. Precinct 1 voters participate in Holland Public School elections. Precinct 3 voters participate in Saugatuck Public Schools elections. Neither Holland nor Saugatuck had issues on the May 7 ballot.

In Laketown, a total of 514 residents in Precinct 2 voted. Of that total, 112 cast ballots at the polls at the Graafschap Fire Department, 4534 60th St., and 402 via absentee. Of the total Laketown Precinct 2 votes cast, 78.2 percent were absentee.

One absentee ballot was blank.

August primary

The next election is the Aug. 6 primary. All registered voters in Laketown Township are eligible to participate in this election.

Laketown voters will choose candidates for the November general election for supervisor, clerk, treasurer, trustee and parks commission as well as state, county and judicial offices. Township voters will also decide the Fire, Roads, Bike Paths and Drain Millage renewal.
