The Graafschap Fire Department is adding another way to keep residents informed and safe – a new website.

The department launched last week. The department previously linked through the Laketown Township website. That link will still bring users to the new Graafschap page.

“The website is another avenue where we can share fire department activity and services we provide like information on Community Risk Reduction and fire safety programs,” said Chief Doug DenBleyker. “There are other things we will be rolling out in the next year making it easier for the public and residents to access information related to Graafschap Fire.”

Risk reduction

Graafschap Fire Department responds to fire, medical and other emergency situations in all of Laketown Township and part of Fillmore Township, and assists other agencies as needed.

The department also takes a proactive approach to prevention, offering free home safety inspections, free blood pressure checks on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon at the firehouse, 4534 60th St., and quarterly blood drives as part of its Community Risk Reduction Program.

Graafschap recently received a grant for automated external defibrillator trainers that will eventually allow firefighters to hold AED training sessions in the community for the medical devices that analyze heart rhythm and deliver an electric shock to restore the rhythm to normal.

The new webpage features a dropdown menu highlighting the firefighters, community services (such as smoke detectors, rental unit registration and green address signs), apparatus, links for more information and history.

Under the “Our Team” tab is a fillable job application for those interested in joining the department.
