New planning commission member sworn in

The newest member of the Laketown Township Planning Commission was sworn in on Friday, June 21, 2024.

Jay Cravens will attend his first planning commission meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at the township hall, 4338 Beeline Road.

Township Supervisor Linda Howell appointed Cravens with unanimous support of the township board on June 12. Cravens replaces Dick Becker who resigned as of June 1. Becker served on the planning commission since May 9, 2018.

Cravens was a finalist for an open trustee seat in 2023.

In his documents from August 2023, Cravens said he has more than 41 years of experience in local government leadership positions including serving as manager and planning director for Cascade Charter Township, manager of the City of Bloomfield Hills and most recently as director of development of the Town of Collierville in Tennessee until his retirement in 2022.

Planning commission members are Chairperson Marcia Perry, Vice Chairperson Ray Buursma, township board Treasurer Jim Johnson, Chad Nienhuis and Cravens.

The basic function of the planning commission is to make and adopt a plan for the township’s land use development.

The commission meets at 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month at the township hall. A Zoom option is available.
