Parking lots in Wolters Woods, Sanctuary Woods will be repaired

Parks commission also preparing for the annual Huyser Hunt.

Some Laketown Township parks are going to get a facelift in the coming months.

The Laketown Township Parks and Recreation Commission on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, unanimously approved parking lot repairs at Wolters Woods, 6281 147th Ave., and Sanctuary Woods, 4750 66th St.

The commission chose Stripe A Lot, 10728 Paw Paw Drive in Holland, to fill cracks, patch, seal and stripe the parking lot at Wolters Woods for $3,450 and Sanctuary Woods for $2,000 for a total of $5,450.

Bids also came in from Pittman Asphalt Maintenance LLC Holland for $4,870 though the total did not include striping at Wolters Woods; and EverLine Coatings and Services of Grandville for $9,375.

The playground at Wolters Woods will receive 110 cubic yards of engineered wood fiber (EWF), a type of mulch, after commissioners unanimously approved a $2,860 bid from Windwood Property Services LLC, 3626 60th St., Holland.

A bid from Superior Groundcover Inc. of Livonia was $3,300.

In other business, the commission was informed that applications for the popular archery hunt at Huyser Farm Park, 4188 64th St., will be available at the end of August with the lottery taking place Sept. 14.

Details will be announced on the township webpage and Facebook.

Last year, 27 people applied for permits and 15 hunters were selected. Hunting was Oct. 1 through Nov. 14 then Dec. 1-31.

The park property remains open for hiking, fishing and other recreational activities during hunting times. Signs are in place in the parking area notifying people that hunting is underway.

The hunting program began in 2008.
