Parks benefit from leftover diamond dust
Trails at Wolters Woods, Sanctuary Woods improved with aggregate.

The trails at Wolters Woods Park and Sanctuary Woods Park are getting improvements with leftover diamond dust from the work last week at the township ball field.
A crew from Heavener Property Service of Saugatuck began trail work at Wolters Woods, 6281 147th Ave., on Friday, Aug. 16, 2024. The aggregate was spread over the walking trails to fill low spots, cover roots and level approaches to the pedestrian bridges.
The material has already been delivered to Sanctuary Woods, 4750 66th St., and is piled next to the parking lot. The material is expected to be spread on the lower-loop trails next week.
About 110 yards of diamond dust was delivered to the township hall, 4338 Beeline Road, on Aug. 7, by Dykgraaf Excavating of Holland, and spread 3-inches deep over the field. The bleacher areas were also leveled and covered with the new material. The leftover dirt was moved to other parks.

The ball field work was requested by the Laketown Township Parks and Recreation Commission. It’s part of multiple work projects at township parks including resealing and striping the parking lots at Wolters Woods and Sanctuary Woods on Aug. 20 and Aug. 21, weather permitting. The parking lots at those sites will be closed.
Wolters Woods is a 37-acre park with a playground, pavilion and creek.
Sanctuary Woods is 40 acres with lower and upper trails through sand dunes and wooded areas.
