Pit-toilets at Wolters Woods Park will reopen
Parks commission will have facility cleaned, add signage.

The Wolters Woods Park pit-toilets, closed after trash was dumped into the underground tanks, will be cleaned and reopened.
The Laketown Township Parks and Recreation Commission on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, voted unanimously to have the remaining waste pumped out and removed from the cistern of the pit-toilets, the facility cleaned and made ready for summer visitors.
The pit-toilet facility at the park, 6281 147th Ave., closed in early April after a cleaning company had difficulty pumping out the tanks due to an accumulation of trash. The township immediately brought in a portable restroom.
Commissioners figured it was cheaper to pump the restroom either every quarter for $175 each time (yearly total $700) or half-year at $250 each time ($500 yearly total) than to pay for a portable restroom at $107 each month ($1,284 yearly total)
The commission will also post signs in the facility telling users not to put trash in the toilets. Garbage cans will be moved closer to the building. The commission is investigating how much the installation of a vent would cost.

Pickleball equipment
In other business, the commission agreed to investigate the possible purchase of squeegees, wind screens and/or shading for the pickleball courts at the township hall, 4338 Beeline Road.
Laketown has two courts that opened in 2021. They are free and open to everyone. Parking is at the township hall.
The commission last month approved expanded open play hours adding the hours of 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays to the current 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
