Recycling group meeting to decide next steps
Community members discussing possible switch from bags to carts, other options.

A community group that has been investigating options for recycling in Laketown Township is getting together to discuss its next steps.
The informal group is meeting 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the township hall, 4338 Beeline Road.
The public is welcome to attend.
“Over the past several months, we’ve had a number of productive one-on-one conversations regarding the future of recycling in Laketown Township,” said Deputy Clerk Zoann Hallam who has been working with Interim Manager and Supervisor Steven Ringelberg.
“Now, we’re bringing everyone together for a group discussion to build on those individual conversations and collaboratively explore next steps. This will be the first time the full group has met, and we believe this meeting is a key step toward identifying a sustainable, community-centered solution.”
In the spring, the township asked residents about changing from the yellow recycling bags to a recycling cart system. Many of those who expressed opinions on the change were asked to serve on the recycling group.
The meeting will review and discuss feedback collected to date.
Group members will explore the four general recycling paths under consideration:
- Continue using the yellow bags;
- Adopt recycling bins as part of the curbside program;
- Create a centralized drop-off location for recycling;
- Combine elements of the above options.
The group will also preview materials from Republic Services, Arrowaste, the City of Holland, Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, and Michigan State University.
