Reminder: Dogs must be on leash when in public

All parks except beach allow dogs on leashes.

Dogs in Laketown Township must be restrained when out in public. All township parks allow dogs on leashes except Laketown Township Beach where no dogs are permitted.

The township ordinances address the issue in two areas:

Chapter 6: Animals, under Sec. 6-3 Running at large; impoundment. The section states in part, “It shall be unlawful for any owner to permit or to allow any domestic animal to be at large at any place within the limits of the township. Any person may, and it shall be the duty of any police officer to, seize any domestic animal found running at large contrary to this section.”

Article II Park Regulations, Sec. 24-20 – Regulations, No.13 states, “No dogs, horses or domestic animals or pets shall be allowed within any public park with the exception of leader, guide, hearing and service dogs, unless specifically allowed by township board resolution.”

The township has passed resolutions to allow dogs on leashes not longer than 6 feet at all parks except Laketown Township Beach Park. No dogs are allowed at the beach park.
