Heavy snow and cold the last few weeks have made the parks in Laketown Township even more beautiful places to visit, but the snow and ice can make parts of trails and stairs treacherous.

Brett Grams, facilities operations for the township, was concerned about the slippery conditions on the 170 steps at Sanctuary Woods Park, 4750 66th St., and cleared the wooden stairs between the lower and upper levels of the park on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025. The snow was packed in and a layer of ice had formed beneath them.

People using the stairs should continue to use caution. They remain slippery even with the shoveling.

The steps on the upper-level trails have not been cleared.

The township plows parking lots for the parks but does not plow or treat trails.

Be careful when enjoying the parks.
