Township filling in wet spots on park trail

Relief is on the way for hikers at Farview Nature Park in Laketown Township who are tired of soggy sections of trail.

The Laketown Township Parks and Recreation Commission on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, requested staff use recently purchased crushed concrete for improvements at Farview Nature Park, Shore Acres Township Park, and Huyser Farm Park. The material and delivery cost $5,000.

The crushed concrete will be used to patch rough areas in the parking lots at Shore Acres, 6602 138^th Ave., and Huyser, 4188 64^th St., and to help fill in low spots along the trails at Farview, 6257 138^th Ave.

Commissioner Michael Teekamp showed photos at the meeting of muddy areas along a trail at Farview.

“Farview is open, just bring your boots,” he said.

The park is 87 acres with a mile and a half of trails around ponds, through woods and an open meadow. Equestrian trails also wind through the park.

Farview is the site of an annual frog catch-and-release event led by the Outdoor Discovery Center and sponsored by the parks commission. Dozens of children wade into the small pond to experience wildlife. This year’s event is June 15 from 10-11 a.m.

In other business, the parks commission approved Advantage Landscape and Turf Management of Holland to provide trees and plantings for trees donated to the township.

The parks commission accepted a donated maple tree that was planted in October at the township pickleball courts, 4338 Beeline Road, in honor of a long-time pickleball player. In July, the parks commission approved a list of trees available for donations.
