The Outdoor Discovery Center continues its work on containing invasive species throughout Laketown Township.
Workers were at Huyser Farm Park, 4188 64th St., on Thursday, June 22, 2023, to treat Japanese knotweed. The invasive from Asia can be found along roadsides, wetlands, wet depression, woodland edges and stream or riverbanks, according to the Michigan Invasive Species Program.

The Outdoor Discovery Center has been treating Huyser Farm Park for six years to get the plant under control, according to Tanner Bricker, conservation services director for the group.
The ODC handles poison hemlock, phramites, Asian bittersweet, common teasel, purple loosestrife, autumn olive control, honeysuckle, glossy buckthorn and Japanese knotweed at the seven township parks.
