Volunteers from Perrigo Co. took a day away from the office on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, to help spruce up Laketown Township parks as part of the annual Day of Caring for the United Way of Ottawa and Allegan Counties.
“We wanted to do something as a group project and this gets us outside and working as a group,” said Caroline Jenks as she and five of her coworkers helped paint the Old Township Hall, 6280 142nd Ave. The hall was built in 1884 and was used for township meetings until the new hall, 4338 Beeline Road, was built in 1987.
At Farview Park
Other volunteers from Perrigo spread woodchips along the main trail at Farview Park, 6257 138th Ave. Taylor Orr smiled as she used a wheelbarrow to haul the chips a half mile from the parking lot to the many bridges along the trail, saying it was a beautiful day to be outside.
Perrigo is a leading provider of self-care products with locations in Allegan and Holland.
Volunteers in previous years trimmed the blueberry bushes at Huyser Farm Park and shoveled sand off the stairs at Laketown Township Beach.
The Day of Caring helps nonprofit organizations get things done, including projects the groups don’t have the day-to-day capacity to do throughout the year, according to the United Way website.
