Volunteers needed to remove invasive garlic mustard

Event is 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, April 19 at state park.

Tyler Lidgard, natural resource steward with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and Becky Bruns of Laketown Township, cut and treat invasive plants in October 2025 at Saugatuck Dunes State Park, 6575 138th Ave. in Laketown Township.

Volunteers are needed to help remove invasive species at the entrance to Saugatuck Dunes State Park, 6575 138th Ave., from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, April 19, 2026.

People will be shown how to identify and remove invasive garlic mustard. All equipment will be provided.

Long pants and closed-toed shoes are recommended.

The 1,000-acre park includes hiking trails of varying difficulty through dunes to Lake Michigan with 2.5 miles of lake front. The park’s 300-acre Patty Birkholz Natural Area contains a coastal dune system and three endangered plant species.
