Where your taxes go
Residents often question where tax dollars are spent.
Most of the taxes collected (56 percent) go to fund the schools (including the Ottawa Intermediate School District). About 21 percent goes to Allegan County. The two mills for the Fire, Roads, and Drains have been in place since the mid-1960s and are renewed every two years by a vote of the residents.
Township operating revenue goes toward wages (other than the fire department), insurance, parks and cemetery maintenance, building maintenance, utilities, legal fees, and the other expenses associated with running a township.
If you have any questions, call the township hall at (616) 335-3050.
