Volunteers needed for state park cleanup

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is looking for volunteers to help remove invasive trees and shrubs from the dune ecosystem at Saugatuck Dunes State Park.

The event is 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the park, 6575 138th Ave. in Laketown Township. Participants will hike to the worksite before using hand tools to remove plants.

No experience necessary. All equipment will be provided.

Meet at the main entrance to the park. Register by contacting Tyler Lidgard, natural resource steward, at LidgardT@Michigan.gov. A Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into the park.

Saugatuck Dunes State Park is about 1,000 acres with 2.5 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, coastal dunes, forested areas, 13 miles of trails and the 300-acre Patty Birkholz Natural Area that contains a coastal dune system and three endangered plant species.
